Counter Weight for Goal Post

Due to an unfortunate incident at a school, safety features are being looked into for goalposts to reduce the chance of it toppling over. 

The commonly used option is to stick a peg or a stake to hold the goal post down. However, if the soil is loose or if it is artificial turf, it may not be an effective choice.

We list other alternatives which you can consider, along with the potential drawbacks. 

Raw Sandbag (25kg)

This is the most cost-effective option.
Each bag weighs around 25kg and is filled with metal sand.
This makes it a very dense option. However, given that there is stitching and it will be exposed to sun and rain, as well as players potentially stepping on it cumulatively, the stitching may break eventually. 
You are recommended to cover the sandbag with a small groundsheet to protect it. 

Nylon Sandbag (20kg)

This is a more elegant option.
Each bag weighs around 20kg and is filled with metal sand.
It is made of a polyvinyl material.
Like the raw sandbag, given that there is stitching and it will be exposed to sun and rain, as well as players potentially stepping on it cumulatively, the stitching may break eventually. 
We recommend covering the sandbag with a small groundsheet to protect it. 

Weight Plates / Dumbbells / Kettlebells with chains

Some schools have also bought these weights and combined it with a small chain and carabiner
(easily available cheaply from any hardware store).
