To consider what makes a good crash mat, these are the main factors:

Grade of Foam: A good foam should be soft enough to absorb impact, but firm enough to ensure the body does not hit the ground. A method many manufacturers cut corners is to use less foam but more additives, so that it achieves the firmness while being cheaper to produce. However, this results in weaker and less dense bonds, and the resulting mat would be less durable. A good way to sense the quality of the mat is the weight. Typically, the heavier the foam, the better quality it is. As a gauge, our 2m x 2m x 30cm mat would weight around __kg.

Covering surface: Whether you choose PU vinyl leather (much more comfortable as a seat surface) or high grade waterproof tarpauline (suitable for outdoors and jumps from height), we will advise you the correct material to cover the foam.

Zip or Velcro: We definitely recommend velcro as it is more durable. Zip might be more convenient but long term use might result in the zip spoiling. It is easier to replace velcro than to replace zips.

Weather-proof: If you require the foam to be left out in the sun and rain, you should request for waterproof foam, this is because most foam absorbs water, and under the hot sun, will "cook" the foam, causing it to wear down much faster. However, waterproof foam is a lot more expensive than normal foam.

As a guide price, with rain-proof high-grade tarpaulin and high density foam, this is what it would cost based on current market conditions:

  • 2m x 2m x 30cm: $1400
  • 2m x 2m x 50cm: $2000
  • The prices above applies to bulk purchases of 5 units and above at one go. If you buy lesser than 5 pieces, prices will increase due to cost of shipping and manufacturing smaller quantities.
